Coventry Lions Club Donates $5,000 to KidSight - Virtually!

E-mail Print PDF

Although the club's first meeting of 2011 was snowed out thanks to Mother Nature it did not stop the important business we do.  A motion was made via email that the club should consider a major donation to Vice District Governor Phil Shober's KidSight program.  KidSight is VDG Phil's special 2011-2012 project in which all of the Lions Clubs in Lions District 14P are donating their time and money to purchase four "kits" of special screening equipment to be used for testing pre-school children for eye and hearing imparements.  More specifically, the KidSight is designed to detect Amblyopia or "lazy eye", one of the most common causes of visual impairment in childhood. Amblyopia will lead to loss of sharp vision or blindness in one eye unless it is detected and treated in the preschool years.

The club met "virtually" and held a vote on providing a donation of $5,000 to this very worthy cause.  After a few hours of email exchanges, the "ayes" had it and it was so moved to donate to this worthy cause.  A check was forthcoming to a grateful Vice District Governor.  In Phil's word "this donation along with Coventry's previous $1,380 donation has put our project 'over the top.' I can't thank you enough."

As always, the Coventry Lions Club continues to assist the local community whenever and wherever we can because...

Created in 1973, the fellowship is named for the founder of Lions Clubs International, Melvin Jones. The fellowship is the foundation's highest honor and represents humanitarian qualities such as generosity, compassion, and concern for the less fortunate.

Our club uses Lions International’s Melvin Jones Fellowship program to recognize the outstanding work and commitment of club members to Lionism’s principles of service to the community, and to the health and well-being of our Lions Club. Ray Bentley and Frank Conforti, the recipients of the MJF are well known in the club for upholding the standard of excellence that the club hopes all members can attain.
