The Coventry Woods Events Committee for the annual Bonfire requested help from the Leos in the following areas: parking donation collection, kid’s games supervision, and night hike leaders.

Colleen Skelton, member of the North Coventry Parks & Recreation Commission, had this to say about the attending Leos:

"I am always in awe of the maturity and kindness these young adults show when put in a position of responsibility in a public event. They are a great example of the future we hope to see. They all jumped right in to help where needed without prior notice. They formed an assembly line to pack up the s'mores bags and manned the table to sell them. I felt very confident leaving them with the money to count and collect as needed.
I watched as a young man knelt down to the child's level to give them their prize at the games. And another student lean down to their level to hand a younger child a bean bag while they were playing the bean bag toss. Not a big deal to some, but the children smiled back.
You have a great group of students. I understand there are over 250 students in the Leos this year. What a great start to community service and our future leaders.
Thank you again and many students said they would be back in the spring to help with the festival even though they completed their hours for the year."

HS Leo Club Inducts 50 New Members

On June 1st. 50 new members joined the ranks of the already large Leo Club at OJR. Over 50 incumbent members met the criteria set before them to maintain their standing as a Leo. With Graduation and the end of the school year just days away, the High School Leos are still involved in volunteering in activities that benefit our community. Recently two activities. The Battle of the Bands and a Super Smash Brothers Tournament, helped raise funding for some of the community services the Leos provide. Please check out the myriad of activities and service projects the Leos have been involved in this year by clicking on "Youth Programs" and "Leo Clubs"

As of today, club members have logged 755 hours of service since September.  We hope to surpass 1000 hours, as a club, by the end of the school year.  In additional to sending volunteers to support activities at our local elementary levels and a few local non-profit organizations, our club has organized a project to clean and rehabilitate the Chestnut Hill entrance to Coventry Woods, helped host this year’s Leo Club Rally, the 3rd annual OJRHS Challenge Day, has provided academic tutoring to high school students, will be hosting the annual OJRHS Battle of the Bands and Super Smash Bros. tournament.

Our club members are appreciative of the support that the Coventry Lions provide to our club, including the financial assistance with running the annual OJRHS Challenge Day and senior scholarships.  We look forward to growing our club and further serving the community next year!

As mentioned at the last meeting, we have arranged an opportunity for Leos to help the local community by providing the funding and labor to cleanup and rehab the Chestnut Hill Entrance to Coventry Woods.  The North Coventry Parks and Rec. department has ask for our help.  We will be refinishing a pavilion and picnic tables at that entrance and doing some other trail maintenance.  This will take place on Sunday, April 30th from 1:00-5:00pm.  I’m asking for as many Leos as possible to attend.  Many hands make light work!!!  This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for anyone that likes the outdoors!

This has been added to the spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PZ_fXq_edU3CoVBQoUviKJFLHyfmaJ6uSjm19Zzhjsc/edit#gid=0

It is the day after the Regional Leo Club Rally that we are hosting.  Please do your best to attend one or both of these activities.  We have a great club.  Let’s be sure to represent ourselves well this weekend!
