October 19, 2016. Today the cubs met for their first meeting of the 2017-2017 school year! We played a "Get to Know You" activity in which they learned about each other as well as the Lion Cubs program. The cubs discussed what helping the community means and what it means to them individually. They also created a list of ideas and services they'd like to participate in this year. our first service will be the annual Lion Cubs Thanksgiving Dinner Cubs collection.

November 9, 2016 Today the cubs created bins for our annual Thanksgiving Dinner Cubs collection. They created a speech to read on the announcements each day to encourage our whole school to bring in donations for families in need. The cubs worked together to beautifully design the boxes, create the speeches and announce their collection to the EC building.

December 8, 2016 The EC Lion Cubs assembled "Holiday Cheer" cards in order to spread some holiday cheer to our community this season. The Cubs worked together to bring in candy canes and assemble 100 cards with ribbon and a candy cane attached. The Cubs had a sense of Holiday Spirit themselves as they created cheer for our community. The cards were placed on the windshields of shoppers and members of the community's windshields on Friday December 23rd and Saturday December 24th in the Upland Square Shopping Center (Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Giant), or the Glocker Way Giant Shopping Center. Lion Stouffer came to visit us at our meeting as well! He was able to share in the Holiday cheer and also speak to the Cubs about the Lion Cub program. photos

January 11, 2017 Today the Cubs got together to help out the EC teachers in their classrooms. Teachers were asked if they needed any assistance in their classrooms after school, and the Cubs worked hard to help clean up the classrooms, help teachers organize, and also get ready for the big EC Science Fair. Many teachers appreciated their assistance and said they'd enjoy their help any time. This was a great way to let the teachers know that we appreciate them and let them know that the Cubs are here to help. :)

March 8th 2017 Today the Cubs got together to celebrate Read Across America day on March 2nd. The cubs chose their favorite childhood books and record themselves performing a read aloud. The videos were sent out to the school so the primary teachers can show the read alouds to their students as an example of fluent reading and celebrate "Read Across America Day". The primary students are always very excited to see their older role models as guest readers.

April 10th Today Lion Leah came to introduce our upcoming Lion Cubs event. She shared information on the schedule as well as background information on what the Cubs would learn and study. Next, one of our Cubs, Victoria Fokin, presented her beautiful writing piece to the Cubs and Lion Leah. Her piece was written about her experience with one of her friends who is visually impaired. The Cubs ended their meeting researching the different species in which they will learn about and catch at the event on May 22nd. They are looking forward to attending:

May 22nd 2017/3:30pm-6:30pm/7 members and 2 advisors in attendance - This evening the Lion Cubs attended the Lion Cubs Warwick Park Event at which the Cubs worked hands on to help the park and its Rangers in the creek. The day began with a animal video to explain and show some of the ecosystems thriving in our community. Next the Cubs went on a hike where they learned about different trees, plants, animals, their habitats, ecosystems and life. The Cubs then put their water shoes on and jumped in the water to catch an invasive species of crayfish called the Rusty Crayfish. This specific species is taking over French Creek eliminating the natives species of critters and plant life. Next, the Cubs finished their adventure with a delicious picnic. They shared their experience with other Cubs from different schools and friends while having some hot dogs and beans. Finally the Cubs finished their outing by officially being inducted into the Lion Cubs program. Lion Terry swore them in and gave them their official t-shirts. It was a wonderful time had by all!
