East Coventry Lion Cubs Hold First Meeting of the New Year

E-mail Print PDF

The East Coventry Lion Cubs began yesterday Tuesday October 11th!  We have another awesome group this year!  Fifteen of Nineteen members attended the first meeting. Yesterday we came up with a list of things that we would like to do in our community, including collecting used sports equipment for schools in Philadelphia that need them, creating books for the children at C.H.O.P., collecting toys, blankets, food, and treats for the SPCA, and many other wonderful ideas.  We were also able to help our own school by creating banners and posters for our upcoming Family Fun Fall Festival!  Attached are some pictures of the cubs and their creations.  We are looking forward to another great year with the Lion Cubs!

Advisors,

Casey Fischer and Kristy Hepner

East Vincent Lion Cubs September Meeting

E-mail Print PDF

The East Vincent Lion Cubs had their first meeting today after school. Sixteen students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades met to hear a preview of the year’s events, and to kick-off our first activity.

For the next two weeks we will be collecting donations for the Lance Armstrong Foundation which works to raise money and awareness for cancer research. The climax of our event will be LiveStrong Day on Friday, Oct. 1st. Students and staff are encouraged to wear yellow to honor a cancer survivor or remember a loved one.

At our next meeting in early October, we’ll begin planning for the 2nd grade Thanksgiving food drive. Stay tuned for updates.

Lion Cubs collect used eye glasses to donate to LCIF

E-mail Print PDF

Lion Cubs from the area's five elementary schools collected over 200 used eyeglasses to be distributed around the world for people in need of corrective vision or sun glasses. What happens to the eyeglasses after they are collected? Follow their journey here: http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/our-work/sight-programs/eyeglass-recycling/the-journey-of-a-pair-of-eyeglasses.php

The eye glass collection was just one of several projects the O.J.R.  Lion Cubs participated in this year.  You can read about their other projects on this site http://www.coventrylions.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&id=9&Itemid=58.

The Lion Cubs have helped make a difference in their communities with projects and efforts designed to help those in need.  At the same time the Lion Cubs are learning the skills needed to become the leaders of tomorrow, the benefits of cooperation in achieving a goals and the sharing of ideas to create a stronger club.

This is just the second year of the existence of the Lion Cubs.  The Coventry Lions Club, their parent club, looks forward to the future projects and accomplishments of the Lion Cubs of Owen J. Roberts.

Fourth Annual Co-Ed Relays Run at Wildcat Stadium

The fourth annual Coventry Lions Club Co-Ed  Relay Invitational took place Tuesday, May 25th.  Over 150 athletes competed in sixteen different relay races and events.

The Co-Ed Relays is a rarity among Invitational Meets in that it allows male and female competitors to participate together, with one another, instead of the traditional separate events for boys and girls.  In the field events, a boy and a girl compete and add their scores together to determine place finishes.  In track events, two boys and two girls combine to create the traditional four person relay.  There is also a non-traditional relay where six competitors run 100 meters each in a crescendo relay.  Each weight class is represented by a boy and girl runner, and the race progresses with each weight class getting larger (read upper weight class) from 90 lb. to 120 lb.
