REA Trick or Treat Night

The Roberts Education Association hosted a Safe Trick or Treat Night October 30th at the High School.
Numerous clubs from the OJR schools, teachers and staff filled the high school hall ways and class rooms with
special activities and treats for the visiting trick or treaters. Attendees were asked to donate non-perishable
food items to help stock the North Coventry Food Pantry
The High School and Middle School Leo Clubs and East Coventry’s Lion Cubs set up activities and
volunteered at the many festivities being held at the school.
High School Leo Advisor John McCormick said “There were a total of 17 Leos from the High School
Leo club volunteering.  Plus a few more that attended on behalf of other clubs that they were members.
We handed out about 15 pounds of treats over the two hours.”
Teacher/advisor Krista Venza and a half dozen Middle School Leos collected canned goods
and passed out treats to the elementary aged trick or treaters.
East Coventry’s Lion Cubs along with advisor Casey Smith held a pumpkin bowling activity.
Trick or Treaters were awarded with a candy treat.
The Vincent Lion Cubs made decorations and posters for the trick or treat tables that were
hosted by REA members.

School Superintendent, Dr. Christian, had this to say about the evening’s activities
Last night, 842 children and 573 adults participated in the REA Trick or Treat Night at the
high school.  Families donated non-perishable food upon entry.  The Coventry Food pantry
and the families they serve will benefit from everyone’s generosity.  Thank you to the REA
leadership as well as our faculty and staff for creating such a wonderful community event.
I received many positive comments from parents last evening praising our staff and students.
On behalf of the Board of School Directors, please accept my sincerest gratitude.

103 Lion Cubs Inducted in 2012-13 School Year

E-mail Print PDF

One hundred-three Lion Cubs took the pledge to be become contributing members to their club in service to the community.

The five elementary schools in the Owen J. Roberts School District held inductions during the months of April and May. The first school inducted was North Coventry, The largest club in the district with 38 new members inducted into the club. Patrice Reiche and Faye Tedesco were advisors for the club this year. Coventry Lion Leah Kinzinger presided over the Induction Ceremonies.  After the inductions she told the club her own story of vision problems, and her becoming a Lion after the Lions helped her in getting a Seeing Eye dog.

Lion Leah (she prefers Lionette!) would join with Lion Ken Swart in inducting the Lion Cubs from three other elementary schools. The pair inducted a total of 52 Lion Cubs during the ceremonies held at each school. East Vincent Elementary advisors are Anne Marie Taglieri and Ginger Hastings. Casey Smith and Kristi Hepner are the advisors for East Coventry. French Creek’s advisors are Marge Ravis and Amanda Martin. Ginger Hastings was the lone advisor new to the position this year.

West Vincent Elementary was the last school to hold their Induction Ceremonies. Husband and wife Lions, Frank and Beccie Conforti presided over the ceremony. The club was the smallest in number with just eight Lion Cubs but they were a very busy club this year. New advisors Stacy Hegarty and Marshall Vogel also completed a pledge to provide leadership to the club.

All of the club members were awarded a club certificate and t-shirt emblazoned with the Lion Cubs Logo on the front and the phrase “Pride of the Coventry Lions Club” on the back.
